Overview

HBN Extended Edition is simply an intensive extended version of our HBN Cadet and Bootcamp courses. Whilst the content and structure is essentially the same, HBN Extended Edition offers students a deeper understanding of the concepts being presented and affords them more time to practice the techniques being taught.

Days 1-2

Days 1-2 are set at an introductory level for technical people without experience in the world of hacking or penetration testing. This part of the course presents you with the background information, technical skill and basic concept required to get you going.

  • Method-based hacking
  • Essential technologies from a hacker perspective
  • Basic coding for hackers
  • An introduction to hacker tools and techniques
  • Real-world exercises and capture-the-flag

Days 2-4

When it comes to modern hacking attacks, have you ever wondered how they did it? Well this part of the course explains it all. From start to finish, we will lead you through a full compromise of a company's IT systems, explaining the tools and technologies, but especially the thinking, strategies and methodologies required for every step of the way. These 2 days are mostly method-based and emphasise structure, approach and thinking over tools and tricks.

  • A quick review of key concepts and technologies
  • A review of Internet reconnaissance
  • A review of fingerprint – port scanning, OS and service identification
  • Vulnerability discovery
  • Exploiting known vulnerabilities
  • Finding and exploiting vulnerabilities in web applications
  • Real-world exercises and capture-the-flag

Context

HBN Extended Edition is designed for students who are technical but who may not have any skill or experience in hacking. Students are expected to have a solid practical grasp of computer operating systems, networks and databases.

Just yourself. Lunch, teas and coffees are provided along with all necessary equipment including pre-configured laptops, tools and utilities.

To Take Home

Students will be provided with CDs containing course material after the course. You will also earn 32 CPE credits.

Course Trainers

SensePost only uses experienced, world-class penetration and security assessment consultants with extensive training experience to deliver the course. HBN Extended Edition will be presented by one of the following course leaders:

Ian de Villiers is a Principal Security Consultant at SensePost. Coming from a development background, his areas of expertise are in application and web application assessment. Ian has spent a considerable amount of time researching application frameworks, and has published a number of advisories relating to portal platforms. He has also provided training at numerous prestigious events such as the BlackHat Briefings in the USA and spoken at security conferences all over the world.

Daniel Cuthbert is the Assessment Manager for SensePost and has over a decade of experience in penetration testing and security assessments. Daniel is a member of OWASP and the author of the OWASP Testing Guide (first released in 2003), which showed the correct way to assess web applications. He has developed and presented training courses and presentations around the world.
