Overview

HBN Unplugged is an entry-level wireless/ wifi security training course. With a strong focus on results, the course outlines three broad offensive scenarios for wifi hacking and then presents students with the background knowledge, methodologies, tools and thinking skills required to successfully breach security in each of those scenarios.

The course takes the student through wireless fundamentals including; antenna selection, radio radiation patterns, and network fundamentals such as TCP/IP and wireless protocols. The theory is kept intentionally short, with the rest of the fundamentals being explained as part of hands-on scenarios throughout the course.

Three scenarios are presented:

  1. Private wifi: How to approach hacking a residential wireless network where technologies such as WEP are discussed.
  2. Corporate wifi: How to attack corporate networks where WPA/2 technologies and attacks are discussed.
  3. Public wifi: An open coffee shop network where monitoring and interception attacks are discussed.

By the end of the course, students have a much better understanding of wireless networks, the associated security failings, and how to exploit them.

Context

This course is the only course in the HBN Edition series that focuses specifically on wifi attack scenarios. It is an entry-level course because it assumes no prior experience with wifi or wifi hacking.
